Literacy
Volunteers-Winchester Area offers a series of four financial literacy
workshops in cooperation with Virginia Cooperative Extension.
Topics include:
Banking Basics - This workshop covers the main services
offered by banks and credit unions, including checking accounts, savings
accounts, certificates of deposit and debit cards. It also covers opening
an account and resolving problems.
Good Credit - This workshop
explains what credit history is, what a credit report is, how to get
your credit report, how to establish good credit and where to complain
if you have a problem.
How to Make Your Money Go Further
- This workshop covers how to make the most of your finances by setting
goals, developing a spending plan, balancing income with expenses, and
tracking spending to manage money more effectively.
Money
Traps - This workshop explains common money traps, such
as payday lending, car title loans, credit rip-offs, and other schemes
that take advantage of consumers.
Who should attend: Individuals
who cannot afford to pay for other classes.
Volunteers
are needed to assist the teacher.
